Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2 Fuzz Pedal

Fueled by dual op-amps, the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2 offers a bold new take on the classic Muff fuzz tone. Resurrecting a previously unreleased ’70s-era circuit, which has been further optimized by Josh Scott of JHS Pedals, this unique fuzz box delivers the same sustained grind as the original model, albeit with less-refined clipping, yielding textures that are more dynamic and woolier than ever before. The Big Muff Pi 2 showcases familiar Volume, Tone, and Sustain knobs, enabling you to dial in everything from medium-level dirt to Pumpkins-level cacophony with a simple twist of your fingers. Moreover, this fuzz pedal includes silent true bypass switching, along with both latching and momentary modes, providing you with unprecedented performance flexibility. Flaunting a nano-sized, die-cast chassis with artwork by EHX aficionado Daniel Danger, the EHX Big Muff Pi 2 delivers a sonic experience that’s unapologetically raw, unmistakably Big Muff, and entirely unforgettable.

A lost circuit reborn: the Big Muff legacy lives on

Electro-Harmonix founder Mike Matthews and circuit-bending mastermind Bob Myer share a history that shaped the fuzz world. Together, they created the original Big Muff and collaborated throughout EHX’s storied past. Bob, always pushing the sonic envelope, frequently brought Mike fresh designs to match the evolving tech of the times. Some concepts made the cut; others were shelved and forgotten. One such design was the Big Muff Pi 2’s dual op-amp circuit, which had been tucked away in Bob’s files since the late 1970s. Decades later, during an interview in Bob’s workshop, EHX devotees Josh Scott of JHS Pedals and Daniel Danger unearthed the hand-scrawled schematic among Bob’s old notes. Josh decoded the design and brought it back to life as the Big Muff Pi 2 — a lost circuit reborn for a new generation of fuzz fanatics.

Everything from low-grade grit to full-blown fuzz

The original Triangle box, the legendary Ram’s Head model, the ‘90s-era Russian-produced varieties, and all the modern re-creations. And we’ve found the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2 a worthy addition to the Pantheon of Pis, delivering its own unique take on this iconic fuzz sound. Plug into this stompbox, and you’ll experience gnarlier textures than earlier iterations that stop just short of zipper territory. The Big Muff Pi 2 brandishes the familiar control layout with Volume, Tone, and Sustain knobs. The Tone knob ranges from deep thunder to ear-splitting rasp as you crank it, while the Sustain knob gives rise to everything from low-grade grit to a full-blown wall of fuzz. On top of that, if you hold down the footswitch, you can bypass its typical latching functionality for a momentary burst of fuzzy discord!
