MXR DD30 Green Day Dookie Drive Pedal - 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition

In 1994, alt-rocking guitarists everywhere emulated (but never quite duplicated) Billie Joe Armstrong’s gut-busting guitar tone on Green Day’s pop-punk masterpiece, Dookie. Success, however, felt a lot like “Pulling Teeth,”.  So, why is Billie Joe’s overdriven tone so hard to reproduce? For starters, he’s Billie Joe Armstrong. Beyond that, his tone was built on a dyad of modded amplifiers — one tuned for clean sounds, the other tuned for dirty. The MXR DD30 Dookie Drive captures the sound of these two amps and packs them into a single, scorching stompbox. Using the pedal’s Blend knob allows you to morph between the two amp sounds in a wet/dry fashion, arming you with a harmonic-rich sound that’s full of depth and dimension. Whether “Basket Case” is in regular rotation or you’re looking for a flexible yet focused dual-dimensional drive pedal, MXR’s Dookie Drive offers heaps of tone-crafting possibilities that thrive within and beyond the iconic pop-punk profile. As a bonus, this limited-edition iteration commemorates 30 years of Dookie’s enduring legacy with special artwork.

Two worlds of tone: “Welcome to Paradise”

At a glance, you’d be forgiven for wondering how this singular pedal is capable of such “Longview”-deterring sonic terrain. After all, the Dookie Drive has all the usual controls — Output, Gain, Tone, etc. — but the real magic lies in its Blend knob. This flexible control allows you to seamlessly morph across and fuse clean and dirty signals, much like Billie Joe does with two separate amplifiers onstage. This killer overdrive also includes a Scoop function, which allows you to sculpt your mids to taste.
